The Viettel Telecommunications Base Stations project is a large-scale telecommunications infrastructure investment program aimed at developing BTS station infrastructure to support the expansion and stable operation of Viettel’s mobile network across Vietnam. The program includes the construction of BTS stations and associated power systems in multiple provinces and cities, providing essential infrastructure for telecommunications equipment and network services.
The project comprises major investment phases, including the construction of infrastructure for approximately 2,000 BTS stations under the 2023 investment program and a further 5,000 BTS stations under the 2024 program. The total investment for these two phases amounts to approximately VND 1.996 trillion. The projects are being implemented on a nationwide scale, demonstrating the significant infrastructure requirements associated with the expansion and modernization of Viettel’s telecommunications network.
Project financing is provided through a combination of the project owner’s equity capital and debt capital. For the 2023 phase, the total investment is approximately VND 536.3 billion, while the 2024 phase has a total investment of approximately VND 1.46 trillion. The use of both equity and loan financing enables the project to mobilize substantial capital for the construction and development of telecommunications infrastructure.
The debt-financed portion of the projects is supported by domestic commercial bank financing. Assets formed from the loan capital are used as collateral for the respective financing arrangements, including loans from Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank and the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam.
The remaining portion of the project financing is provided through the owner’s equity capital, allowing Viettel Construction to combine internally generated resources with debt financing to fund the development of the BTS infrastructure. This financing structure provides the capital base required for the construction of thousands of telecommunications stations and their supporting power systems.
The projects are implemented through construction and consulting packages covering the development of BTS station infrastructure. Viettel’s network organization directly manages the projects and conducts contractor selection for construction and consulting packages. Recent BTS infrastructure projects have been developed to support the installation of telecommunications equipment, maintain stable 4G network quality, and improve customer service experience.
The project is implemented by Viettel Construction Joint Stock Corporation in coordination with Viettel’s network organization and selected domestic construction and consulting contractors. The scale of the program, involving thousands of BTS stations across numerous provinces and cities, demonstrates the contractor’s extensive capabilities in telecommunications infrastructure construction, project deployment, and nationwide network support.
Through its large-scale deployment, the Viettel Telecommunications Base Stations project plays an important role in expanding telecommunications coverage, maintaining network reliability, and providing the infrastructure required for the continued development of Viettel’s 4G and 5G services.
